Our classes
Mat Pilates in Tuckahoe
Purely Mat Pilates teaches ten mat Pilates classes a week at 62 Main Street, Tuckahoe: one hour each, on a mat, following the classical sequence with variations, with props in every class and all levels in the same room.
What happens in a class
The hour works through the classical mat sequence: footwork and warm-up through the abdominal series, spinal articulation, side-lying work, and finishing with extension and stretch. Variations are layered on top depending on who is in the room, which is why regulars do not plateau and why the shape is familiar but the hour is never quite the same twice.
Props are used in every class
Props are not an add-on here. Each session uses some combination of hand weights, resistive bands and loops, mini stability balls, yoga blocks, Pilates rings. The point is to bring the resistance and feedback of the Pilates apparatus, the reformer and the Cadillac, onto a mat, so you get the sensation of the equipment without the equipment.
Taught with an occupational therapist's eye
Jennifer Pagoto founded the studio and has taught mat Pilates since 2016. She is also a licensed occupational therapist, which is the part no other studio nearby can claim: occupational therapy is the study of how people actually move through their days, how a joint tolerates load, and where compensation creeps in. That is why the modification you are offered here tends to be specific to you rather than generic, and why injuries are asked about before class rather than after.
I am passionate about helping my clients reach their optimal level of practice in Pilates. My classes are tailored for the beginner, intermediate and advanced student. Modifications are always provided.

Mat Pilates with Vjollca
For as long as I can remember, movement has been at the heart of who I am. Spending five years as a dancer during my teenage years taught me to appreciate the power, grace, and intelligence of the human body. That early love for intentional movement stayed with me and ultimately became my life's calling.

Mat Pilates or reformer Pilates?
Neither is better; they are different tools. Reformer Pilates uses a spring-loaded carriage that assists and resists movement. Mat Pilates uses body weight, gravity and props to produce similar demands. Purely Mat Pilates is mat only, which is why the props matter: they are what brings apparatus-like resistance to the floor. Not a prenatal class
These classes involve prolonged prone work, intense spinal flexion and inversions, none of which are recommended during pregnancy, and the studio does not offer prenatal instruction. If you are or may be pregnant, speak to your doctor first and tell the instructor before class.
